Exiles

Any modern city will have hundreds of histories intertwined at any given time. These histories are dominated by who has the voice to speak.

Glasgow during the Iraq War. A young couple fighting for their lives in a city riven by poverty, gentrification, boredom and sin. Through nostalgic storytelling and historical observations, Exiles dissects ways in which history shapes our past and predetermines our future, with often devastating consequences. Victoria McNulty’s evocative performance is intertwined with specially filmed segments that transform this story.

“An overdue dose of social reality”

Darren McGarvey

“A film that is beautiful to watch, uncompromising in its message and genuinely breath-taking to listen to”

Bella Caledonia

“Like the city of Glasgow itself, Exiles is political, unflinching and tender”

Matt Abbott

“Dignified, fearless and profoundly compassionate, Victoria McNulty is the Maria Callas of a Glasgow Barrowlands tongue-lashing”

Morning Star

“An important and powerful piece of poetry”

Paisley Book Festival 2021
